Boqueirão Environmental Interpretation Center

The Environmental Interpretation Center of Boqueirão (CIAB) was conceived in the tanks where whale oil was stored, which was melted at the Fábrica da Baleia do Boqueirão. It is a space dedicated to the promotion and knowledge of the places with the most environmental interest on the island, with emphasis on marine environments. Here it is possible to meet from the resident and migratory birds, passing through the beings that live in the intertidal zone and water column, to cetaceans and hydrothermal springs. It is a privileged place for the dissemination of scientific knowledge, enriching the experience of those who visit the Natural Park. CIAB was chosen to integrate the "Architecture Guide - South and Islands of Portugal", in 2011; was part of the Iberian Exhibition of Architectural Heritage project – La MIPA, within the scope of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale 2013, “Close, Closer”; and was referenced/published in several websites and specialized magazines.
